Jersey City is located to the South of Hoboken. Its eastern waterfront faces the Hudson River where it meets Upper New York Bay. Liberty State Park has panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island, the former immigrant gateway. Bars and ethnic eateries line the streets of downtown Jersey City, where real estate is in fact booming. Although the lifestyle is urban, there is a surprising amount of green space here. Best known for Liberty State Park, a 1,212-acre oasis in the middle of a major metropolitan area, you can catch ferries to both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, only 2,000 feet away. This hub also offers direct Path service to NYC from both Grove Street and the Financial District, home to large office complexes housing companies such as Goldman Sachs. You can follow the pedestrian walkway along the waterfront all the way to Hoboken with bike friendly paths.
Jersey City is broken into several neighborhoods. The downtown area is the most popular and boasts a NYC feel and quaintness at the same time. The heights section, sits atop Hoboken and is certainly up and coming with more and more people flocking west up the hill. Journal Square is becoming more and more popular because of its direct Path service to NYC and Newark and the newest popular destination is the Bergen Lafayette area which has been recently coined the “BeLa” neighborhood.
The city of Jersey City is the county seat of Hudson County, New Jersey. Considered part of the New York metropolitan area, Jersey City is a close neighbor to Manhattan, separated only be the Hudson River. A significant port of entry Jersey City is serviced by several highways, including Interstate I-78; U.S. Routes 1 and 9: New Jersey State Highways 7, 139, and 440; and the New Jersey Turnpike.
